Built Like a Concert, Tailored to Your Wedding
Since 2015, Popular Demand Entertainment has grown into one of Northern California’s top wedding and party bands, based in Sacramento and playing celebrations from the Sierra foothills to Lake Tahoe and across the Central Valley. This show-stopping band brings together elite musicians and star-quality singers with more than 20 years of professional experience in the music industry, from work with Grammy-winning musicians and producers to national tours and years of professionally coaching music and singing lessons.
What sets a Popular Demand reception apart is the show itself: electrifying energy, sensational singing, cutting-edge choreography, and mind-blowing mashups and medleys that pack a punch at every performance. The setlist moves from Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson to Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, No Doubt, Sublime, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, wide enough to get several generations onto the same dance floor. One groom put it this way: “Other than marrying my wife, the 2nd easiest and best decision I made for our wedding was booking Popular Demand.”
The band doesn’t box its entertainment into flat rates and set packages. Every wedding is unique, so each booking is customized around the number of musicians, the type of performances, audio and lighting, and other personal touches, building the right band configuration for the couple’s vision and budget. That can mean a solo musician, an acoustic duo, or a small ensemble for the ceremony and cocktail hour, then the full band of seven to twelve performers once the dancing starts.
Popular Demand brings all of its own sound and lighting equipment, with systems for crowds of well over 300 guests, ceremony microphones, and dance floor lighting and effects, including fog and snow machines. MC services are part of the offering, recorded music fills the breaks between sets, and the team arrives at least two hours before the ceremony to set up and sound check.
Full-service entertainment planning runs alongside every step, so couples can sit back, relax, and simply enjoy the day. The band recommends booking at least six months ahead, which gives the team time to plan the details and rehearse the set list and song requests for the best possible performance.
Travel within 50 miles of the band’s home base is included, while longer trips are quoted by mileage and, beyond 75 miles, include lodging for the band. Past weddings range from Granlibakken in Tahoe City and the Forest House Lodge in Foresthill to the Oakland Zoo, and the band has played stages from Thunder Valley to Heavenly Village at Lake Tahoe. Popular Demand is also available to travel nationally, and its wedding work earned The Knot Best of Weddings award in 2021.
Fitting, really, for a band named after the reason encores happen.
Meet Melyssa, the owner and band director behind Popular Demand Entertainment in Sacramento:
“Hi, I’m Melyssa! Since 2015, our band has been bringing concert-level energy to weddings across Sacramento, Tahoe, and the Central Valley, and I’ll be your go-to person from the very first email to the last song of the night.
Every couple is different, so we never squeeze you into a one-size-fits-all package. Together we’ll shape the band around your day, from an acoustic ensemble for your ceremony to the full lineup once the dancing starts. I’ll send over our song list, you’ll pick your favorites and requests, and we’ll rehearse it all so it feels made for you.
I work hand in hand with your planner and other vendors, so the whole night flows from one moment to the next. Your only job? Getting out on that dance floor.”
